Podcast FAQ

My feed just stopped working!

NOTE: There is a new feed: http://67.192.96.206/podcast.xml

  • Your username and password have not changed. The new feed functions exactly as it did in the past.
  • If you manually download the podcasts, we are aware of the issues with our file names. We are looking in to a fix.
  • Be sure to unsubscribe from the old podcast feed. Click on the feed, and click the "Unsubscribe Button." You not lose any past episodes unless you delete the old feed.
  • Podcast apps that work with our feed: Mobile: iPhone – Downcast, Android – BeyondPod, Both – Stitcher. For Desktop: iTunes and Miro.

The New Feed Locks Up iTunes!

We have had reports that some iTunes users on Windows experience a freezing of the program.

Some users have found that running iTunes as "Administrator" helps solve the issue:

  • Step 1 – Right-click the "iTunes" icon on your computer's desktop. If the icon doesn't appear on the desktop, click the "Start" menu button, then click the "iTunes" folder and right-click "iTunes."
  • Step 2 – Click "Properties" to open the iTunes Properties dialog box.
  • Step 3 – Select the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator."
  • Step 4 – Click "OK." Double-click the "iTunes" icon to launch iTunes as an administrator.

If this fails, please contact us at [email protected].

We suggest trying Miro: http://www.getmiro.com/ or Stitcher as well.

How do I subscribe to my podcast in iTunes?

If you tried to autoload your podcast into iTunes and it didn't set up correctly, please try the following:

For Pre-iTunes 11 Users:
Launch iTunes
Click ADVANCED
Select SUBSCRIBE TO PODCAST
Copy and paste: http://67.192.96.206/podcast.xml

When prompted within iTunes, enter your username & password and checkmark "REMEMBER PASSWORD." Your shows will take a few moments to load into your iTunes player, at which time you will notice the name of your show listed in the Podcasts' title column.

Episodes to keep: ALL EPISODES

Can I use the Apple mobile Podcast app to download my B&T VIP podcast?

Unfortunately, the new Apple Podcast app is not compatible with paid/authenticated podcasts such as ours. Thus, the app cannot be used to automatically download new episodes through the Apple Podcast service. Episodes of our podcasts must be downloaded to iTunes on your desktop or laptop computer, then synced to your iPhone or iPod.

Some apps will allow you to communicate with our authentication services. We recommend the Downcast podcast app for Apple users. Stitcher is a great app for both desktop, iOS, and Android.

The Apple Podcast app can be used to listen to your synced episodes. Be aware, however, that once you have synced your episodes from iTunes to the app, you may begin to receive alerts from the app asking you to log in to download the most recent episodes. This is despite the fact that, as stated above, the app cannot be used to update in this fashion.

To stop the podcast alert message from appearing whenever you access the Apple Podcast app, please follow these steps:

1.) Access the subscription podcast
2.) Tap the podcast icon at the top of the feed
3.) Set “Subscription” to OFF (this will not affect the syncing of new items from iTunes to the device)
4.) Scroll down and set “Sort This Podcast” to OLDEST FIRST
5.) Scroll down and set “Play This Podcast” to OLDEST TO NEWEST

I used to have MP3s delivered to my computer daily without iTunes through the old Bob & Tom Media Center. Why doesn't this work anymore?

As of January 1, 2014, the Bob & Tom show rebuilt our website and VIP section. We are no longer using technology developed by our previous company. We apologize for this inconvenience.

We suggest trying Miro: http://www.getmiro.com/

When I try to download an mp3, why does it try to save as "egate"?

If you see egate when trying to download, this simply means that you are not logged in to the site. Once you log in, retry downloading the MP3.

Why are my podcasts downloading/playing out of order?

Unfortunately, we have no control of the order podcasts arrive in; this is a default setting in iTunes. You can easily reverse how you view the order date by clicking the "Release Date" tab in iTunes podcast category at the top of the screen.

Within your iPod, however, episodes are listed in chronological order by default. The only way around this is to create your own playlist in iTunes and arrange them in the order you wish to hear the show and then sync to your iPod.

Apple's instructions for creating playlists in iTunes can be found HERE

Why did I stop automatically receiving the podcasts in iTunes?

In iTunes, if you do not listen to a podcast for more than 5 days, the program will stop automatically downloading the podcast for you. Unfortunately, this is a default feature of iTunes, and there is no way to modify it or stop it from happening.

If this is what has happened to you, you will see a small "!" next to the title of the podcast. Clicking on this exclamation point will show the iTunes message, "iTunes has stopped updating this podcast because you have not listened to any episodes recently. Would you like to resume updating this podcast?" Clicking on Yes will prompt iTunes to resume getting future episodes, but you'll also have to hit "Refresh" in the bottom right corner to load any available episodes from the past 7 days. After confirming your username and password, all available episodes should begin automatically loading.

Please note that Apple's servers only allow us to make up to 7 days worth of episodes available at any given time. If you've been away from your computer for more than 7 days and you'd like to get all missed episodes, please download them from the show's website and manually load them into iTunes.

I'm only getting one hour of the podcast sent to me daily, instead of the complete show. How do I fix this?

Be aware that iTunes defaults to downloading only the first file each day. Other files available are listed with a "GET" button next to them when the grey arrow to the left of the podcast title is pointing down ("expanded view"). Press the "GET" button, and each file will arrive in moments. This lets you decide how and when you receive your files. Alternately, you may click the grey "GET ALL" button next to the title of the podcast to begin downloading the entire past week's podcasts all at once.

You can also change your settings to automatically download these files when they arrive by following these instructions:

Click on "Podcasts" on the left side of the screen. Click on the name of the program you are attempting to podcast so it appears highlighted. Click on "Settings" at the bottom of the screen and make sure the settings match the ones below:

Select > Check for new episodes: Every Hour

Make sure the "Use Default Settings" box is unchecked

Select > When new episodes are available: Download All

Select > Keep: All episodes

Why do the MP3 downloads contain no music?

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has ruled that royalties must be paid to artists every time their music is downloaded from the Internet. Sometimes our programs include music that we don't own. In an effort to contain costs, we remove any music that isn't ours from our downloadable MP3s.

How do I get the shows automatically sent to me everyday as podcasts?

Each of our podcasts can be automatically delivered to your computer daily via the Apple program iTunes. Click here for detailed instructions on how to set up iTunes to automatically download the podcasts for you.
